Five special guests were honored Tuesday at Good Shepherd Fairview Home in Binghamton.
Their names are Minnie, Mitzi, Bailey, Bodhi and another Bailey. They're therapy dogs and Good Shepherd and residents there hosted a dog party for them. On a regular basis the dogs and their owners come in and the residents get to pet and be friendly with the dogs. The dogs are good at getting the residents to open up, especially those who are introverted.

Millie DesBiens says, "A lot of the seniors only get touched custodially, there aren't a lot of people in their lives when they're in a nursing home or facility. What the therapy dogs and other people that come in, they can give a lot of love and get a lot of love."

Dave Titus says, "Most of it is basic obedience and being able to be around other dogs, noises, wheelchairs, just basic training. But, they do have to be tested out through Therapy Dogs International to know that they have the right demeanor. "

Most of the therapy dogs are actually rescued animals from a variety of circumstances. For instance, Dave Titus's dog, Bailey, was brought up from Hurricane Katrina.
