Center for Excellence in Long-Term Care Launched
Wednesday October 6, 2010

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International launched the Center for Nursing Excellence in Long-Term Care in collaboration with experts from the Hartford Centers of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, national providers, trade associations and geriatric consumer groups. The center will offer services to educate nurses and enhance their roles in long-term care.

The Geriatric Nursing Knowledge Assessment, developed with support from the Foundation for the Future of Aging, assesses the RN’s knowledge in major competency areas common to geriatric nursing: dementia, delirium and depression; fall assessment, prevention and management; diabetes and cardiovascular disease; skin integrity; pain; bladder/bowel continence; infection; unmet needs manifested as behavioral symptoms related to dementia; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; and palliative care/end of life.
