I am a licensed NHA and have run seven facilities ranging from 31 beds to 350 beds. I focus on interim projects exclusively. My ideal NHA setting is in a locked psychiatric SNF. This is an under-served population that needs care, the right psycotropics and a safe environment. For me, it's an environment with little or no family problems, the families are just happy to have their people anywhere other than the streets; very few patient complaints, they are just happy to be eating and sleeping indoors AND there is a never ending supply of patients that keep the census high.

The unattractive side? There are wild behavior problems that come with an edgy population. You need a psychiatrist who visits often and a good relationship with the local police who can get a 5150 done in a timely manner.
