"Don't just meet the minimum state regulations regarding dementia education...exceed them!"
The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners®, LLC was formed in 2001 by a group of professionals with varying work and personal experiences in the field of dementia care. Their backgrounds include Nursing, Regional Managers, Geriatric Care Managers, Psychiatry, Dementia Unit Managers, Alzheimer's and related Dementia Care Specialist, Alzheimer's Educators, Dementia Educators, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Services, Therapist, Pharmacists, Alzheimer's Care Specialist, Long Term Care Administration, Elder Law, and Home Care Administration. The Council was formed to promote standards of excellence in dementia and Alzheimer's education to professionals and other caregivers who provide services to dementia clients. As the number of dementia cases continues to increase nationally and worldwide, there is a great necessity to insure that care givers are well trained to provide appropriate, competent, and sensitive direct care and support for the dementia patient. The goal of the Council is to develop and encourage comprehensive standards of excellence in the health care profession and delivery of dementia care. NCCDP is committed to providing quality Alzheimer's Training and Dementia Training program.
Across the United States of America, the regulations are different from state to state for Alzheimer's Units, Dementia Units, Memory Centers and Special Care Units. Some have extensive regulations for Nursing Homes and Assisted Living while other states may have no regulations. State regulations governing Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, Adult Day Care are also different in each state for the requirements for Alzheimer's and Dementia Education. Some states have no requirements, some are vague, others require just two hours of education while other's are extensive. The Goal of the NCCDP is to promote national standards for comprehensive and extensive Alzheimer's and Dementia Education.
Dementia Unit Managers report receiving little training for this very important job and responsibility. Every company who has this job position also has their own unique set of guidelines for the Dementia Unit Manager. Some have very involved and lenghty training while others offer no training at all. The NCCDP established the Certification for Dementia Unit Managers called Certified Dementia Care Manager CDCM to establish specific guidelines and recommendations for the Dementia Unit Manager.
First Responders Trainers: Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, EMT, Emergency Prepardness. The NCCDP in response to request for specific Alzheimer's and Dementia training geared specifically for First Responders developed a specialized program. Upon completion of the First Responder Train the Trainer program the First Responder Trainer will be awarded the designatiion of Certified First Responder Dementia Trainer™ CFRDT™.
